The Science of Wholeness: Part Two
GLOSSARY OF IMPORTANT
TERMS (First Half) GLOSSARY OF IMPORTANT TERMS (First Half) The following is a list of words essential to the correct understanding of the entire SCIENCE OF WHOLENESS documentation. Proper understanding of the following key terms in the correct context of this text is essential to avoid misunderstandings and incorrect interpretations. It is hoped the reader will look up any word in question and therefore gain better insight into the full meaning of my lessons. AJNA - Brow Center or third eye energy center or chakra through which astral energy and colors (auras for example) can be seen. It is the seat of the soul. Regular concentration in this area can lead to more and more vivid dreams until one day one has an astral projection experiece! The third eye is the doorway to higher relms deeper and deeper within oneself. See "single eye" mentioned in the New Testament under Matthew, verses 6:22-23. The mystic path of Surat Shabd Yoga starts with meditation in the third eye center. ANTIDEPRESSANT - any substance (such as Prozac) used to counteract depression by altering neurotransmitter levels in certain parts of the brain. I prefer to use natural antidepressants because they are widely available, inexpensive, require no perscription, and are generally free of side-effects except better health and longevity. ANTIOXIDANTS - free-radical scavengers such as vitamins A, beta-caroene, B complex, C, bioflavonoids, E, L-cysteine, Coenzyme Q10, selenium and zinc. Glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase are powerful antioxidants made inside the body from some of the above supplements. The aging process and degenerative diseases such as cancer, senility, Parkinsonism and heart disease are all caused by dangerous free-radicals which are molecules missing an electron and therefore able to attach on to and destroy vital cellular enzyme systems. ASTRAL - a quality or level of subtle energy that pervades all creation and surrounds all physical objects (auras). It consists of ghost-like particles of energy (similar to neutrinos) that are extremely common but nearly impossibleto detect by even the most sensitive physical instruments, therefore, modern physicists still do not take seriously the possibility of an entire astral cosmos (as is depicted in AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A YOGI). The astral plane consists of a pure, yet solid energy, that can maintain a highly complex structure or form that has intelligence and life of its own and is capable of giving out and receiving information and impressions from history and probable future events. Astral matter is able to record every impression that occurs because of its infinitely complex, yet almost non-existent mass. Every inanimate object contains this energy in the form of impressions that can be picked up through psychometry. The astral plane is the realm of extremely subtle and infinitely complex energy fields that duplicates all physical life-forms and remains intact and self-aware long after physical destruction. Humans and animals have astral bodies which include exact replicas of each and every physical form. The Kundalini, sushumna, Ida, Pingala and especially all the chakras constitute vital "organs" of the astral body. ASTRAL CONSCIOUSNESS - awareness of metaphysical energies (psychic) that are normally too subtle to be detected by anything physical. Opening of the third eye enables one to see into the astral world. AUM or OM - universal sacred syllable or mantram that can be used in meditation to calm or rescue the mind. When deeply concentrated in advanced meditation, "Aum" may be heard as a blissful, wondrous vibration. By concentrating on this vibration one can go even deeper and eventually find cosmic consciousness. "These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the beginning of the creation of God."-- (REVELATION 3:14) "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made."--(SAINT JOHN 1:1 3) "Aum" of the Vedas became the sacred "Hum" of the Tebetans ("Om Mani Padme Hum"); Amin of the Moslems; and Amen of the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Jews, and Christians. Amen in Hebrew means "sure, faithful." AVATAR - an incarnation of God such as Jesus Christ who is free of all karma, earthly desires and therefore the need to reincarnate, but incarnates anyway in order to help in the spiritual evolution of humanity. BABAJI - according to M. Govindan's book, BABAJI AND THE 18 SIDDHA KRIYA YOGA TRADITION, Babaji, also called Kriya Babaji Nagaraj, Mahavatar Babaji or Shiva Baba, is a great avatar secretly living in the Himalayas who was born Nov. 30th, 203 A.D. in a small village in southern India, now known as Parangipettai. Babaji is the "ageless, deathless" guru of Lahiri Mahasaya. His powers are Christlike. His title, Mahavatar, means "great avatar." Parts of his life is also viewed in AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A YOGI. He is what I would call "the perfect manifestation of absolute wholeness." BLISS - a wondrous joy in every cell of the body, leading to divine love and profound soul-freedom. BROW CENTER - ajna or third eye chakra one-half inch between and above the eye-brows. CAUSAL - realm of pure mental existence transcending astral heaven. Life's mental and intellectual level of existence. CELIBACY - complete abstention from all sexual activity. In the state of wholeness, it is perfectly natural and enjoyable to be celibate, especially if one is without a partner. A radiant aura of sweet bliss constantly flows into every partof one's being 24 hours a day, every single day. The breathless, non-aging state of cosmic consciousness becomes easier to reach. CHAKRA - a subtle energy center and vital part of the astral body. COMPLEX CARBOHYDRATES - long chains of sugar molecules that are harder to break down and therefore more slowly combusted than simple carbohydrates (simple sugars). Potatoes, rice, corn, lentils, peas, yams, oats and other whole grains are foods high in complex carbohydrates. They are used by the body as a clean source of quick energy without which the body could go into a state of acidosis or ketosis caused by inefficient fatty acid metabolism. It is important to always include at least some carbohydrates at every meal to ensure maximum metabolic efficiency. CONCENTRATION - essential for starting and maintaining conditions in the mind favorable to samadhi. According to some yogis it usually takes two minutes and thirty eight seconds (2:38) of perfect concentration to bring this state about. There are many levels of samadhi. GLOSSARY OF IMPORTANT TERMS (CONTINUED) CONJUGAL LOVE - the love between a man and a woman; marital love. See "romantic love" and "soul mate." CONSCIOUSNESS - unified sensation of experience. One's "inner light" of awareness. CONSERVATION - the careful maintenance of vital resources so that none is wasted or squandered. Instead, they are used for the highest possible purpose. The idea of conservation (conservation of earth's natural resources and birth-control through conservation of sexual fluids) is perhaps the only hope for the future of mankind. Man's greatest danger to himself is over-population (mass famine), global deforestation, pollution and atomic wepons. CONTAINMENT - maintain sexual fluids within one's self without loss or discomfort. COSMIC CONSCIOUSNESS - awareness of God in the aspect of "Father" or Spirit beyond all creation as transcendent and without qualities. Experience of the blissful void beyond creation, beyond the phenomenal worlds. COUNTENANCE - self-control; the same as containment, but over a period of time or as part of a permanent way of life. CROWN CHAKRA - thousand-petaled lotus at the top of the head sensed as bright white light and infinite consciousness. When the Kundalini reaches its full glory, it has united with "Shiva" at the top of the head (crown chak- ra) producing the state of God-realization. DIVINE LOVE - a form of love that has no selfish motive, is 100% pure and born of boundless joy from within. ECSTASY - a very uplifting, pleasant feeling, usually of sexual energy channeling into spiritual energy and light. EGO - one's often limited and inaccurate mental/emotional self-image. The mind is vulnerable to false information, desires, addictions, selfishness, greed and possessiveness, and is driven by a strong compulsion to protect, uphold and feed this false sense of self often to its own detriment! Yoga divinizes the ego by refining the mind along with its sense of self into a more direct realization of one's true, Divine Self. The mind is thus freed into an ocean of direct insight, profound peace and knowledge, transforming its ego into a state of "individual I-lessness." ENLIGHTENMENT - when the Kundalini reaches and fully illuminates thehighest (crown) chakra with full superconscious brilliance and one is able to thrive in that state permanently. Also when the ego or false sense of self is awakened into its real sense of Self. ESSENCE - most important, vital and distinctive part of something, such as the life "essence" or principle that enables a seed to sprout into a plant. One's vital fluids seem to be an especially powerful and essential source of this life-principle. EXTRATERRESTRIAL - a living entity from outside the earth's atmosphere most likely from other solar systems such as the Zeta Reticuli I or II Systems. Assuming this is true, many are extremely technologically advanced beings who are coming to Earth to do clandestine physiological, psychological, genetic and reproductive analysis program involving humans. It is very difficult to explain why, except, as bizarre as it may sound, it appears for decades (may be even centuries) they have been breeding a "hybird" race of humans and aliens as their means of strengthening and enriching their genetic stock(?) There may be several advanced species (even extraterrestrials related to humans!) visiting our planet, not just one. UFO's are a widespread phenomenon, and the evidence for their existence, in spite of what Carl Sagen says, seems overwhelming, but the threat, if any, is not taken seriously, unless one happens to be an abductee. FATTY ACIDS - fats (triacylglycerols) that contain long chains of hydrogenated carbon atoms with an organic acid group (COOH) at the end of each chain. Fats have very high fuel value, especially saturated fats. There are many different kinds of fats and lipids. Among which are saturated (cannot accept any more hydrogen), monounsaturated (one double bond) and poly-unsaturated (two or more double bonds). See Lessons 9.8 and 9.9. GLUTATHIONE - glutathione peroxidase is a powerful natural antioxidantcreated in the body from L-cysteine and selenium which catalyzes the breakdown of peroxides (rancid fats) keeping dangerous free radicals in check. GOD - absolute Truth, Reality, Soul. God has three aspects: (1) the (Father) absolute infinite unmanifested "Uncreation" and both the beginning and end of all creation (beyond all time and space); (2) its universal Reciprocal (Mother, shakti, Holy Spirit, Light, the Word or Aum); and (3) the Son or Creation, Manifestation or Offspring of the above two universal Principles or aspects of God. The very core of our being seems to reflect the three-fold nature of God. For Reality to exist without consciousness seems inconceivable. God is also a very personal, loving white light that can manifest our deepest, heart-felt yearnings. There is nothing more beautiful, more completely fulfilling, healing, and desirable to one's entire being than God. Seek God first! GUNAS - the three qualities of nature: tamas, rajas, and sattwa--obstruction, activity and expansion respectively. Also mass, energy and intelligence. In man, these three qualities express themselves as ignorance or inertia, activity or struggle, and wisdom. GURU - one can have many teachers, but only one guru. The guru is the "divine preceptor" who leads the devotee to God. When the guru initiates the devotee in a practice such as a mantram or other yoga technique, some of the guru's shakti is given along with it making the devotee his chela and permanently obligated to his guru until God is fully realized. WARNING: there have always been many false teachers claiming to be gurus. A real guru is very rare and hard to find. There is often no question when one is found because of the profound aura of peace, authority and God-tuned magnetism that they give out. HIGHER CHAKRAS - usually referring to the third eye and crown chakras, and sometimes also the heart center and throat chakra as opposed to the the lower chakras: muladhara (at the base of the spine), sacral center (regenerative organs) and navel chakra. HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS - awareness in higher centers (chakras) of consciousness awakened by the Kundalini. Having a more fulfilling, enlightened perspective on life, while being more in harmony with nature and divine will. Wholeness. HINDU - one who follows the teachings of Hinduism: various religious systems based on four profound scriptures, the Vedas; also a member of one of the ancient races of India who live in tune with the Hindu teachings. IDA - the left side of the sushumna (central passage in spine for Kundalini to travel up). When the Ida and Pingala (right side of sushumna) are balanced, then Kundalini energy is freed to ascend up spine through the central sushumna. INDOLES - a cancer-preventing substance that acts as an antioxidant found in vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, brussels sprouts, and cauliflower. INTIMACY - sexual intercourse hopefully with the sincerest attitude of love, chasteness and affection. KARMA - is the universal law of cause and effect, action and reaction. Everyone is ultimately responsible for his actions and thoughts. One's destiny is molded by whatever energies have been set in motion, either wisely or unwisely. "Be not deceived, God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."-- (GALATIANS 6:7) What resentment one may have against God andhumans can be largely defused by an understanding of karma as the law of justice. KRIYA YOGA - an advanced scientific system of Raja Yoga leading to attainment of cosmic consciousness and taught by many of the greatest gurus, such as Babaji who discovered it and initiated Lahiri Mahasaya (born 1828). Mahasaya initiated Sri Yukteswar Giri, who in turn, initiated Paramahansa Yogananda, author of AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A YOGI and founder of Self-realization Fellowship in the west from which his teachings of yoga and science of Kriya Yoga are now presently available. KUNDALINI - the Divine Mother energy (shakti) at the base of the spine (muladhara chakra) that can be awakened through prannayams, self-discipline and other yoga practices with the goal of it lighting all the way up through the spinal centers (chakras) to the thousand petaled lotus at the top of the head. LAMA YOGA - a name I gave to a series of special breathing techniques, when, under ideal conditions, can cause the awakening of the Kundalini. "Lama" comes from the term "Tibetan Lama" which is a Tibetan teacher and master of spiritual truths, usually a Tibetan Buddhist monk. I used the word "Lama" because when I discovered the breathing exercises (June 25, 1975), I had just begun to study yoga while having just completed most of the inspiring books by T. Lobsang Rampa (a Tibetan lama) and was so inspired by his teachings that I named my system after his title. LECITHIN - a phospholipid with 450 mg choline, and 250 mg. inositol per tablespoon. It is found mainly in egg yolk and soy beans. Contains one molecule of glycerol, two molecules of fatty acid, and one molecule each of phsophoric acid and choline. Controls cholesterol and helps maintain the myelin sheath, a protective coating for the nerves. It seems to be an excellent source of Kundalini and mental energy and should be required for any spiritual diet. LIGHT - most subtle part of physical universe and is readily seen by astral beings. All creation comes from light "gravitationally collapsed" into 5 dimensional standing waves or concentrated fields of energy. Light is pure energy that travels at a constant universal speed (aprox. 186,000 miles per second), and takes enormous amounts of it to create just one particle of matter. The electromagnetic spectrum of which light is a part of, consists of 5 dimensional "distortions" of space while gravity and gravity waves tend to be much weaker because they are only 4 dimensional "distortions" of space (producing changes in rate of time). Light waves are minute changes in probability! Light from astral matter or God is infinitely more tenuous, subtle, subjective, and complex than physical light and is perceived directly through the third eye. The white light from God seen in near-death experiences is of significant psychic, spiritual and mental healing value. It has even been associated with miraculous physical healing events. LOVE - God, also the unselfish, loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another. LY - abbreviation for Lama Yoga. MAYA - the Sanskrit word for "the measurer" which is the universal principle of separateness and duality by which limitations and divisions are apparently present in the Immeasurable and Inseparable. Somehow, everything has its opposites, by which all can be measured and compared. Maya is Nature herself--where everything is relative, ever in transition, always changing. Nothing is permanent in this world of "maya"--the antithesis to Divine Immutability. It is God's plan and play (lila) to divert humanity from Spirit to matter, from Reality to unreality. "The devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil."--(I JOHN 3:8) The realization of the Christ Consciousness, within one's own being, through full awakening of the higher chakras, destroys all the illusions or "works of the devil." MEDITATION - a quiet time of restful stillness while firmly fixing one's entire attention and awareness on God, or a mantram, symbol, ideal thought, prayer, image of a saint, avatar, Christ, etc. "Be still and know that I am God ..."--(PSALM 46:10). MANTRAM - a sacred syllable repeated over and over until mind is freed from chaotic thoughts to perceive itself as pure consciousness. METABOLISM - biochemical energy processing using various catalysts or enzymes to maintain a controlled combustion of carbohydrates, fats and/or proteins while storing some and transforming others into tissues. NEGATIVE IONS - negatively charged oxygen molecules that are invigorating. Mountain air, wilderness areas and areas around large waterfalls tend to be high in negative ions. Thunderstorms create massive changes in numbers of negative ions. Plants and trees seem to emit them and possibly other subtler beneficial fields of energy too that can provide some sort of subtle nourishment to the astral body. I've found it very difficult to develop spiritually without living outside in a thick forest or lush garden. Plants, forests, oceans, storms and misty fogs seem to give off some kind of "orgone" or bioplasmic energy that feeds and recharges the astral body. The present epidemic of depression may in part be due to the widespread destruction of forests and other ecosystems and mass urbanization resulting in a global deficiency of vital "orgone" energy making it even harder for the average person to commune with nature and find God. See Lessons 3.2, 3.3 and 9.4. NOCTURNAL EMISSIONS - loss of vital fluids while dreaming or asleep. Most likely happens to those who practice celibacy and/or are not supplying optimum nourishment to the glands. The prostate gland, while under stress, cannot contain large quantities of sexual fluids, without "bursting" under natural pressure. As a man ages, the prostate enlarges and probably loses some of its elasticity (the bladder does) thereby making it harder and harder to contain sexual fluids without having a strong urge and/or tendency to lose them. Saw palmetto berries, antioxidants and my diet as a whole, helps to prevent all the above from happening. ORGASM - a very basic and physical thrill or intense climax of sexual excitement almost always leading to the release of sexual fluids toward the end of coitus. Loss of sexual fluids makes it much harder to experience another orgasm. The knowledge in my book enables one (and explains how) to transcend the need for orgasm through the rising of the kundalini into expansive states of bliss and love and therefore maintaining one's vital fluids. It is in this way sexual energy can be conserved, built up, and transformed into a powerful spiritual energy of everlasting inspiration and happiness while enjoying a new sense of freedom, love and much faster spiritual progress.
